One powerful example of relying on God's grace is the story of the Apostle Paul, formerly known as Saul, as he underwent a profound transformation on the road to Damascus.
Before his conversion, Saul was a fervent persecutor of Christians. He actively sought to imprison and even execute followers of Jesus. However, on his journey to Damascus, a blinding light from heaven surrounded him, and he heard the voice of Jesus asking, "Saul! Saul! Why are you persecuting me?” (Acts 9:4, NLT).
Saul was struck blind and humbled by this divine encounter. He spent three days without sight, fasting and praying. During this time, he came to recognize the depth of his sin and his need for God's grace.
Ananias, a faithful disciple of Jesus, was sent by God to pray for Saul and restore his sight. Ananias initially hesitated, fearing Saul's reputation, but the Lord assured him of Saul's transformation. So Ananias went and found Saul. He laid his hands on him and said, “Brother Saul, the Lord Jesus, who appeared to you on the road, has sent me so that you might regain your sight and be filled with the Holy Spirit.” (Acts 9:17, NLT).
Through God's grace, Saul's spiritual blindness was lifted, and he received the Holy Spirit. He was not only physically healed but also spiritually transformed. From that moment forward, Saul became the Apostle Paul, one of the most influential figures in Christian history.
Paul went on to write numerous letters that form a significant portion of the New Testament, sharing profound theological insights and spreading the message of God's grace and salvation through faith in Jesus Christ. His life exemplifies the transformative power of God's grace.
